CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The scene was incredible out of Charlotte’s Cotswold neighborhood Tuesday morning after a massive tree fell on several cars outside an apartment complex.

Channel 9 crews could see where the huge tree toppled over at the Maple Way Apartments on McAlway Road, landing on three vehicles, demolishing a van.

Reporter Anthony Kustura learned that all three vehicles belong to one owner, but that nobody was hurt.
Neighbors said they first thought it was thunder, but when they came outside, they were stunned to find a row of cars with a massive tree on top of them. One neighbor said she rushed over to make sure no one was inside.
The owner Carlos Garcia told Channel 9 he was outside near the cars just hours earlier.
“I was last night, talking on the phone for 20 to 30 minutes and they went inside my apartment and two hours later, I heard when it fell,” Garcia said. “I could have been inside the van dead.”
No rain or wind was reported overnight, so it appears the tree may have just been rotten and fell under its own weight.
