Music Factory venues fighting to survive under COVID-19 pressure

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kara Taddeo feels like she’s playing roulette with her businesses every day.

She and husband Tom have spent the last decade invested — financially, personally and professionally — in VBGB Beer Hall & Garden and a sister concept, 8.2.0, at the AvidXchange Music Factory.

Now their fate is wrapped up in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every week is a gamble. Our goal is clearly to keep alive, but we’ll see,” Kara says. “You can’t risk it all on something other than yourself.”
