AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — A murder investigation is underway Tuesday night in Avery County after deputies said a man called 911 and claimed he stabbed his wife and that she was dead.
Darrell Callahan is charged with murder after deputies said he stabbed his wife in the neck.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning at the Elk Park School Apartments, where the couple lived.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was assisting the Sheriff's Office with the investigation and search warrants in the case.
No other details have been released.
