SALISBURY, N.C. — A flatbed truck hopped a curb in Salisbury and careened into several vehicles in a grocery store parking lot, officials said.

"What I remember most about walking outside was the smell,” witness Brian Hancock said. “It was rubber, oil, a hint of gasoline."

It happened outside the Aldi grocery store about 12:30 p.m. Friday on Jake Alexander Boulevard West.

"It sounded like a bomb," Hancock said.

The truck slammed into eight vehicles. One of them ended up inside the store.

All I (saw was) the white Nissan pushed into the building here," Hancock said.

Hancock said people were crying after the chaos.

"I feel like it was the sovereign thumbprint of God that was on this place today and He protected us," Hancock said.

There were no injuries reported.

It's still unclear when the Aldi store might reopen.

Police said they are working to figure out the exact cause of the crash and if the driver of the truck will face any charges.

"This could have changed people's entire lives today," Hancock said.
