Officers went to the complex on South Lodge Circle just off East Arrowood Road around 3 a.m. on Saturday after neighbors heard gunshots.
The sound of rounds being fired also caught the attention of nearby officers.
“Officers were nearby on an unrelated call and heard gunshots,” CMPD Major, Dave Johnson, said.
At the scene, they found four men who had been shot, one died from his injuries at the scene. The three other victims were taken to the hospital where another one passed away.
“It’s an active scene it appears to be some kind of confrontation in the parking lot where there was possibly a shootout between two different parties,” Johnson said.
According to police, everyone who was involved in the incident was still on the scene when they got to the complex.
“No active threat to the public at this time, there is nobody we are actively looking for,” Johnson said.
Residents in the southwest Charlotte community, who didn’t want to be on camera, told veteran crime reporter, Glenn Counts, that it’s normally a peaceful area but Saturday’s showed them how quickly things can become violent.
“She does feel safer inside, but it’s always a worry when she is outside, not just guns but breaking into people’s stuff robberies, but yeah guns mainly,” the resident told Counts.
Officers have not released any names at this time, all we know is that everyone involved in the incident were adult men.
Investigators are hopeful the two survivors can shed some light as to what led up to this seemingly senseless act of violence.
