MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Multiple injuries have been reported after a school bus carrying a high school volleyball team crashed in McDowell County, according to our news partner WLOS.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. Monday on N.C. 226 near the intersection of U.S. 221 north of Marion, according to the Highway Patrol.
The bus was from the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Mooresboro, North Carolina, McDowell County officials said.
McDowell County Emergency Management Director William Kehler said the bus went over an embankment on Coxes Creek Mountain.
Fourteen people were transported to area hospitals, including one who was airlifted to Mission Hospital, Kehler said.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, WLOS reported.
Officials have not said what led up to the crash.
