INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — Middle school basketball teams from across 20 Carolina counties gathered to show their skills on Saturday at the 3rd Annual Muggsy Bogues Middle School Basketball Tournament.
Carolina Courts in Indian Trail hosted teams from across North and South Carolina.
Muggsy Bogues, a former Charlotte Hornets player, is known for his philanthropic work across the city. The Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation curated the event to raise funds to provide jobs, educational opportunities, and healthy meals to families and kids in need.
The tournament allows the middle school athletes to have a playoff since they normally don’t when their season ends, Bogues said.
“For them to come together under one roof for an opportunity to see who is going to be that last team standing, the bragging rights to put in their showcase room for all the students to see,” Bogues said.
