Mother, son attacked by dog in north Charlotte, officials say

CHARLOTTE — Neighbors rushed to help a mother and her son who were attacked by a dog Wednesday morning.

It all happened in one man’s front yard on LaSalle Street in north Charlotte. A man said he sprinted outside after hearing horrible screams.

“She was laying on the ground with her son. She was on top of her son, her chest to his back, trying to protect his head. The dog got her right on the arm,” Martin Knight said.

Knight, his wife and other neighbors did what they could to get the dog away.

“I immediately started kicking the dog trying to get it off of her and that’s when the two boys from across the street ran over and they tried to get the dog. So, I kicked the dog a couple more times. It finally backed off and it started coming toward me. That’s when the wife, I don’t know how she did it, came down the steps with a shower chair and hit that dog several times with the shower chair,” Knight said.

MEDIC said one person was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK. Knight said this a reminder for dog owners to follow leash laws.

“Something’s going to happen and when it happens, you’re going to feel bad about it,” Knight said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have not said if any anyone will face charges.
