ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police in Rock Hill arrested a mother and father after their 2-year-old child died Tuesday morning.
Officers said they responded just before 10 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Williams Street after getting a call about a 2-year-old who wasn’t breathing.
Paramedics and firefighters were already at the home, and officers were told that the medical emergency began while the boy was with his mother and father.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they arrested the child’s father, Bruce Williams, as well as the boy’s mother, LaKesheia Jackson, and charged them both with unlawful conduct toward a child.
The arrest warrants claim that both Williams and Jackson withheld medical attention from the child when he was in distress.
Neighbors who spoke with Channel 9 said the couple facing charges does not live at the home on Williams Street, but were there visiting friends.
"Oh my God, it just makes me so sick,” said Marlene Cooney. “I mean, I don't know what happened. I've never seen those people over there before."
Detectives are still investigating the boy’s death and have not released his name.
Williams and Jackson appeared for hearings Wednesday afternoon and were denied bond.
