CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother is pleading for the community to take another look at surveillance pictures in the hopes that police can find and arrest the driver who mowed down her husband and 4-year-old son earlier this month in the parking lot of a popular south Charlotte shopping center.

Police said that on April 17, around 5:30 p.m., Nate Green was outside the Harris Teeter grocery store in Blakeney Village, off Rea Road, when he tried to get the attention of a teenager who was getting into a Volkswagen Passat.

Green didn’t know it, but officers said that teen had just stolen a 24-pack of Bud Light from the store and was trying to flee.
In trying to escape, the driver of the Passat intentionally hit Green while he was carrying his son, knocking them both to the ground.
They were both rushed to the hospital, where Green remains. He suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, and officials said he may never fully recover.
His son suffered a deep gash to the head, but was released from the hospital the next day.
Police released surveillance pictures in an effort to track down the Volkswagen Passat and the person driving it.
On Wednesday, Green’s wife, Amber, said she is desperate to find the person who hurt her family. She said her family is still dealing with the pain, as well as the hospital visits, and it has broken her heart to see how the incident has changed her son.
“He is getting better each day, but he still has a lot of anxiety walking across parking lots,” she said. “He wants to hold my hand tighter. He gets fearful when other cars go by, and he thinks they are going to hit him. He still thinks about what happened that day.”
Green and CMPD investigators urge anyone who may know something about the crime to share that information with police by calling Crimestoppers.
