Downed tree leaves more than 2,000 without power in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Utility crews were worked for hours Wednesday morning to remove a large tree that had fallen across power lines, knocking out power to thousands in east Charlotte.

More than 2,400 people were reportedly without power after the tree crashed down on Wilora Lake Road near North Sharon Amity Road late Tuesday night.

When the tree fell, it pulled down lines and snapped a utility pole. Overnight, crews had to saw the tree into pieces in order to remove it from blocking the road.
