NORTH CAROLINA — There are more than 775,000 people in North Carolina who have been affected by a massive data breach to Anthem Health Care policies.

The breach was discovered in late January and include 601,000 members of Anthem plans and 110,000 members of non-Anthem plans, which include Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.

There are nearly 64,000 members of unknown plans dating back to 2004.

Anthem is offering 24 months of free identity theft repair and credit monitoring services to current and former members of the affected plans.

Anthem officials said they will be notifying people affected by the breach by mail soon, but customers do not have to wait.

"If you feel that your personal information may have been compromised because of this security breach, I highly recommend you contact Anthem directly for more information," said North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. "You can enroll in identity protection services today."
