HOLLYWOOD — Mooresville's Shannon O'Hara is storming through the American Idol competition.

The 17-year-old advanced to the top 24 Monday after performing Katy Perry's "Unconditionally," on Channel 9.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest tweeted to O'Hara that she "sang a judge's song, made it her own and made Katy Perry tear up."

Her performance was in front of a live audience in Hollywood, California.

O'Hara performed 'Up To The Mountain' by Patty Griffin on Sunday.

She auditioned for American Idol in Asheville last August.
