MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Walmart was evacuated Monday night in Mooresville after reports of a bomb threat.
Chopper 9 SkyZoom was over the scene at Norman Station Boulevard, just off Interstate 77 at exit 36, and showed hazardous material crews at the supercenter. Channel 9 also learned that police and fire crews responded.
Viewers told Channel 9 they saw a lot of people running out of the store.
Highway 150, which is nearby, remained open, but all entrances to the shopping center were blocked off while authorities investigated.
Police said the store received a call claiming a chemical would be released inside the store.
Jennifer Gregg was shopping when an employee told her to evacuate the store.
"I was like, ‘What?’” Gregg said. “She says, 'You have to leave right now, drop everything in your arms and leave.'"
Police determined there was no threat and employees and shoppers were allowed back into the Walmart.
Detectives are trying to find the caller.
Walmart statement:
"Our Mooresville store did receive a bomb threat and was evacuated for approximately 2 hours today. The store has reopened after no threat was found. Please refer to local law enforcement with additional questions."
