MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A man was arrested after Mooresville police said they found a woman dead at a Mooresville apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said they arrested Ignacio Vazquez in connection with the death of Alejandrina Marquez Escobar at the Piedmont Pointe Apartments.
Police said Escobar, 29, was discovered stabbed to death inside of her home on Agape Drive.
Police said a 4-year-old boy helped them find the man accused of killing his mother.
Police said the boy and his 2-year-old brother were in the apartment with their mother when she was killed Wednesday.
Police arrested Vazquez after the child told them who to look for.
Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Vazquez, 26, on first-degree murder charges. He was apprehended after police searched for several hours.
Investigators said the two had a domestic relationship.
Neighbors were frightened about the apparent homicide that occurred just feet away from their doors.
"Just sadness, scared … just wondering what happened, just fear," one neighbor said.
Escobar's friends said Vazquez and the victim dated two years ago but in all that time since they split up, they said Vazquez couldn't let her go.
“It never went past that, but I guess he was obsessed with her,” said a friend who asked not to be identified.
Friends said Escobar allowed Vazquez to live in her apartment.
“She was real nice. If you ask her for a dollar, she'd give you a dollar. If you asked for food. She was real sweet,” the friend said.
Friends said she was a young mother whose 4-year-old child will now have to grow up without her.
