MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A community is continuing to honor the life of a local police officer killed in the line of duty.
The city of Mooresville held a virtual groundbreaking for the Officer Jordan Sheldon Memorial Dog Park on Monday.
Sheldon was a K-9 officer handler.
The park will allow K-9 officers and their handlers to train there. It will also serve as a place for everyone to walk and reflect on Sheldon’s sacrifice.

“I can’t think of a better way to honor the legacy of Jordan Sheldon than by dedicating a community dog park in his honor,” Mooresville Mayor Miles Atkins said.
Sheldon was shot and killed during a traffic stop in 2019.
A memorial scholarship in his name also helps incoming police cadets go through basic training.
