MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney will officially retire Wednesday, following months of controversy surrounding his time in office.
“I would like to thank each of you for your dedication to the Town and willingness to serve our citizens,” Carney wrote to the board in a brief letter of resignation on Sept. 21. “I am thankful for our time working together and for our wonderful staff.”
A town employee filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the town, alleging that he saw Chris Carney on camera in 2024 in Town Hall not wearing pants.
In February, Carney told Channel 9 he took his pants off because he became sick and vomited on himself.
Then in April, Mooresville commissioners voted 4-2 on a vote of no confidence against Carney.

Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Dingler will take over as interim mayor beginning Oct. 1.
The next scheduled election for Mooresville mayor is set for next year.
