Mooresville charter school sanitizes after flu outbreak

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Iredell County Health Department is stepping in to help a local school after a flu outbreak.

School leaders at Langtree Charter Academy in Mooresville, North Carolina, sent a letter home to parents saying: “Dear Parents, Please remember that we are in flu season. If your child is showing any symptoms of illness, please keep him or her home. You may want to consult with your physician. We have had many students who have exhibited flu-like symptoms and were sent home. As a precaution, we are sanitizing all doorknobs, hand rails, bathrooms, counters and tables. We will sanitize again this evening and again during the day Wednesday."

"We are incorporating a two times per day sanitation protocol. We will continue to keep parents informed to minimize additional health risks -- especially during the flu season,” staff at the school told Channel 9.

Parents were happy that the school took a proactive role.

The Health Department said it hadn’t gotten reports from any other schools this flu season.

Leaders said they are providing information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the school to help it keep the virus from spreading.
