MONROE, N.C. — Police are searching for the gunman who killed a 22-year-old man four days after he was found dead in a home on Pine Street in Monroe.
Investigators said Edwin Tafolla was found dead inside the home around 3 a.m. Sunday.
His mother was inside sleeping when she heard the gunshot and called 911.
Officers found Tafolla dead in the front yard.
Neighbors had very little information about him and what happened before investigators arrived on scene. They told Channel 9 that he grew up in the area.
Channel 9 learned that Tafolla did have a criminal background which includes a 2012 conviction for assault with a deadly weapon.
Monroe police spokesman Pete Hovanec said neighbors and friends have been interviewed.
Detectives have some valuable information, but no arrests have been made.
The killing is Monroe's second homicide in two weeks. An arrest has been made in the other case.
Call police at 704-289-1591 if you have any information in the case.
Police said there's no connection between the killings other than the heartbreak they inflict on a community.
