Monkeypox vaccine to be available during Pride weekend, health officials say

CHARLOTTE — Mecklenburg County Public Health has announced that it will be distributing monkeypox vaccines during Pride events this weekend.

Thursday, the White House indicated that it would be working with North Carolina to develop a plan to administer the vaccine during the Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade.

The festival is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 21.

Charlotte Pride said the vaccines will not be offered inside the festival.

They will be offered by public health officials at an offsite location, adjacent to the festival and Pride zone.

This announcement comes after the White House said that an extra 2,000 vaccine doses are coming to Charlotte as they target cities hosting LGBTQ events.
