ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — July 30 marks the 5th anniversary of the day Erica Parsons' adoptive brother reported her missing.
"That is a day that has changed my life," Erica’s biological mother Carolyn Parsons said.
He reported her missing in 2013, even though she had not been seen since November 2011.
Erica's body was found in 2016 in Chesterfield County.
Her adoptive parents, Sandy and Casey Parsons, are charged with her murder.
In 2016, Sandy Parsons led investigators to a shallow grave in Pageland, South Carolina where Erica's remains were found.
"Sandy was in my wedding when I married his bother,” Carolyn Parsons said. “I watched that little boy grow up.”
Autopsy results revealed Erica was beaten, choked and physically abused.
