Moldy salsa, roaches among issues noted in Charlotte Mexican restaurant’s health inspection

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Moldy salsa, live roaches and trash -- these are just some of the issues that health inspectors noted at an east Charlotte Mexican restaurant.

Los Reyes Supermarket on Central Avenue got a score of 75, which breaks down to a "C" grade.

The county health inspector went out to the restaurant Tuesday. The inspector saw moldy salsa in the walk in cooler, a moldy knife stored on the walk in shelf and several pans with food build up.

The inspector noted an employee handling ready to eat tortillas with bare hands and they also saw live roaches around the ice machine.

There were more problems outside, where the inspectors found large amounts of trash.

Channel 9 wanted to see if this new score was a fluke so we looked at this restaurant’s previous inspections. This is its fifth "C" grade since August 2017. It has only had one "A" grade in that time.

If a restaurant receives a score less than 70, inspectors can immediately revoke its permit.
