CHARLOTTE — With the tap of a card and a push of a button, the Bower family is helping those in need this holiday season.

The family is taking part in the Light the World Mobile Giving Machine at the Promenade on Providence Road in south Charlotte. You can buy items such as blankets, clothes and food, starting at just $5 each. All of the money goes to various organizations, which then purchase and distribute the items.

Fives states across the south have Mobile Giving Machine locations.

The kiosk is set up during the holiday season for people who want to give back.

Mary Bower hopes to teach her kids about giving, instead of receiving by using the machine.

“It makes the whole Christmas season mean something a little more,” Bower said.

The Mobile Giving Machine runs through Saturday. Organizers said there will be special surprises each day, including a stop for a Panthers player and NASCAR driver.
