Cheslie Kryst returned home for the first time since being crowned Miss USA last week.

Kryst crowned the new Miss North Carolina USA, Laura Little, Monday night.

Kryst, an attorney, is now fighting to help free a man sentenced to life in prison for a low-level drug charge.

“It's unsettling, so I wanted to work to help other people who didn't have the privileges I had,” Kryst said.

Kryst is also an advocate for Dress for Success -- a group that helps provide women with professional clothes and get them ready for job interviews.
