CHARLOTTE — The plans for Uptown’s massive Seventh and Tryon mixed-use development are being scrapped as Metropolitan Partnership, the Washington, D.C.-area real estate firm working with Mecklenburg County, has exited the project.
The county and Metropolitan failed to reach an agreement, County Manager Dena Diorio confirmed to the Charlotte Business Journal Tuesday afternoon.
The county controls the site, bounded by North Tryon, Seventh, College, and Sixth streets. Diorio said the county is reviewing options, including selling portions of the site. The new main library planned for the area will not be affected by the departure of the developer — or the expected but undetermined shift in scope.
Previous plans called for a 400,000-square-foot office tower, market-rate apartments, 31,000 square feet of retail, and other features.
