CHARLOTTE — From the Jersey Shore to Uptown Charlotte, Geno DiPaolo has a rich history in the art of pizza making.
DiPaolo and his daughter Gena run Geno D’s Pizza at The Market at 7th Street — a spot recently named in Yelp’s Top 100 U.S. Restaurants.
Geno started working at a pizzeria on the Jersey Shore when he was 16 years old and spent three decades operating a shop there.
In Charlotte, he first worked at The Market with Pure Pizza before he and Gena opened their own business in August 2021.
“We decided when we started this … I’m just gonna pull out the old-school basics,” Geno said.
Geno gets to The Market early each day, perfecting his dough and toppings. “You put your heart into it,” he said.
He says the Grandma is their most popular pizza.
The Market at 7th Street is at 224 E. 7th Street.
