CHARLOTTE — Five people were hurt and at least three of them were taken to the hospital Monday morning following a crash involving a school bus in east Charlotte, officials told Channel 9.

The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. on Gold Pan Road at Dulin Creek Boulevard, off Plaza Road Extension near Interstate 485.

According to MEDIC, five people suffered minor injuries, and three of them were taken to the hospital.

Fire department officials on the scene told Channel 9 that three people in the other vehicle involved in the crash were taken to the hospital to be checked out. All of the injuries were described as minor.

Channel 9 crews could see several Charlotte-Mecklenburg police vehicles on the scene, along with an ambulance near the school bus. A Kia with heavy front-end damage was towed from the scene and it appeared the school bus was damaged on its left side.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district officials said bus number 1731 was heading to Rocky River High School and that there were 17 students on board at the time. CMS told Channel 9 that none of those students had to be taken to the hospital.
