CHARLOTTE — Police have made an arrest days after a 16-year-old boy was shot in South End on the Fourth of July. The teen died at the hospital the next day.
The shooting happened around 3:40 p.m. Sunday along South Boulevard near Remount Road.
Police at the scene told Channel 9 that the victim was shot more than once when someone opened fire in the street. MEDIC said the juvenile, identified as Travell Moore, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Moore died on Monday, police said. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
“It’s tough, because another family has to bury another child … another child was shot in Charlotte,” said Charles Robinson, who has been trying to turn the tide of violence in Charlotte for a couple of years now.
Both roads were shut down temporarily while officers investigated the scene.
Authorities told Channel 9 the shooting was not random.
On Wednesday, police announced that 30-year-old Dashawn Rorie was arrested in the crime. Rorie has been charged with murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.
“Where are we? Another kid has lost his life. We’re tired of waking up in the morning seeing who else is dead,” Robinson said.
