CHARLOTTE — One person died in a car accident involving at least one impaired driver, CMPD confirmed Sunday.

CMPD said a Nissan 350Z was turning left onto David Cox Road from West W.T. Harris Boulevard when it was rear-ended by a Ford F150 that was recklessly traveling and speeding westbound.

The Ford overturned and both vehicles went off the road into the woods nearby.

The driver of the Ford, Jarrod Bayless, was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC. Michelle Bayless was in the passenger seat and transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Zachary Alexander, age 27, was driving the Nissan and also hospitalized with serious injuries. He was found to be impaired by alcohol and faces charges for Driving While Impaired.

Police have not released whether the deceased Mr. Bayless was also impaired, but they said that speed was a factor in the crash.

Detectives believe the driver of a red Ford Mustang, pictured below, was a potential witness and are asking for the driver to contact CMPD.
