14-year-old charged with murder after 16-year-old shot to death in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Police have charged a 14-year-old for the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was shot to death in north Charlotte on Sunday evening. The shooting also left two other people injured.

Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to the scene at the Trinity Park Apartments on Trinity Road near Lakeview Road. When they got there, police found three people who had been shot.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the 16-year-old, identified as Jaylen Foster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other victims were taken to the hospital -- one had been shot in the neck and the other was shot in the leg, authorities said.

On Monday, CMPD said the 14-year-old suspect was charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of stolen motor vehicle.

No other details have been released.
