Mecklenburg County commissioners adopt $2.3B budget

CHARLOTTE — The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissions adopted its $2.3 billion FY2024 operating budget Tuesday night, which is an increase of $156 million, or 7.1% increase over this year’s budget.

The budget sets a property tax rate of 47.31 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, which is a 3.5% tax increase.

Part of the money covers raises for full- and part-time employees.

The budget also includes a $2.5 billion bond request for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Voters will see the CMS bonds on ballots next election.

There is $809 million for 10 county projects and $448 million for 37 parks and recreation projects. Another $146 million is for eight Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library projects and there is $107 million for four Central Piedmont Community College projects.
