CHARLOTTE — A hot mic caught shocking comments from two commissioners during a Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners meeting.
In the audio, you can hear the voice of one commissioner saying, “disgusting.” Then, you can hear a second commissioner saying, “they make me sick.”
The comments were made during discussion of the county’s indoor mask mandate.
Late Tuesday night, Commissioner Susan Rodriguez McDowell admitted she uttered the word “disgusting” in response to comments directed at a mother whose children are immunocompromised.
McDowell said she regrets that her comment was picked up on a hot mic, but stands by the sentiment.
Commissioner Laura Meier admitted to saying the comments made her sick. She also said she said she has no patience for hate and respects all speakers.
