Mecklenburg Co. jail employee arrested on child porn charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Clinton Williams was out of jail and had to feel out of place when he appeared in court as a defendant Friday to get a new court date.

He worked at the jail as a detention officer.

Police showed up to his home Thursday to arrest him on child porn charges

No one answered the door at Clinton Williams home in west Charlotte.

One neighbor said he is one of the reasons why she moved to the Rapids at Belmeade subdivision.

She heard several officers lived here.

She spoke with Eyewitness News, but didn't want to show her face.

"We were told it was one of the safest neighborhoods in the area," a neighbor said.

Channel 9 told her that Thursday the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department searched Williams' home.

They say they had information that the man who worked nine years at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office owned and shared illegal images of children online.

"I don't like the thought of him living two doors down especially now that there are kids on the same street," said a neighbor.

Charlotte police said they got a tip from officers in Cabarrus County, but would not say how their Cyber Crimes unit obtained the information that helped them get a search warrant.

They say it didn't matter that Williams worked in law enforcement.

"This won't be tolerated. We won't put up with it and we are glad we identified this individual because he was working in the law enforcement community and that's not the type of people we want to work with," said Capt. G. Farley with CMPD.

They say his arrest should be a warning to everyone else.

"We are coming for you," Farley said.

Williams is suspended without pay until his legal issues are resolved.
