MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board announced Friday that store hours have been temporarily modified due to the impacts of COVID-19.
ABC stores will now open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Most stores normally open at 8 a.m. The change is effective Saturday and will remain in place until further notice.
ABC officials said the board modified hours in an effort to protect the health and wellbeing of customers and employees. The board believes the adjustment will help give sales associates enough time to properly sanitize stores and restock products for customers.
“As store hours change for customers, our associate’s shifts will be adjusted to better meet operational effectiveness. We are paying very close attention to our stores and communities and will continue making the necessary changes to help our associates safely and adequately prepare stores to meet customer needs. The Board will continue to monitor this ever evolving public health issue, and, take further appropriate action when necessary and required,” read a release from the board.
This isn’t the first time this year that the board has modified store hours. At the start of the pandemic, stores closed earlier and customers had to wait in line outside the store.
