CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crews were working tirelessly overnight to clear downed trees in south and east Charlotte, including a massive tree that was blocking part of W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The tree came crashing down just before 2 a.m. near Linda Lake Drive. W.T. Harris Boulevard was closed between Sharon Amity Road and The Plaza, officials said.

Police told Channel 9 that a car crashed into the tree after it fell, but nobody in the car was injured.

Drivers can take W.T. Harris Boulevard to Milton Road, to The Plaza and back onto W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Duke Energy workers along with tree removal crews were both called to the scene to help clear the roadway.

Police also had to shut down a portion of Park Road in south Charlotte after a huge tree toppled across the road early Tuesday.

Park Road was blocked in both directions at Lilac Drive for hours but reopened just before 7 a.m.
