Many out of work still having problems filing for unemployment in NC

CHARLOTTE — Action 9 investigator Jason Stoogenke has been talking to dozens of people who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic and has found many of them have had trouble with North Carolina's unemployment website, which has become overwhelmed.

A lot of people tell Action 9 they’re still having trouble with the website and getting a real person on the phone.

In many cases, the frustration has been going on for weeks.

North Carolina’s Department of Commerce runs the unemployment program. It said it’s taken a lot of steps to combat the problems, like hiring more workers, borrowing workers from other parts of the agency, outsourcing to a private call center, and beefing up its computers and phones.
