The German auto-parts manufacturer keeps its North American headquarters, including two manufacturing plants and a technology center, on a 60-acre campus off Interstate 77 in Fort Mill. It will halt engine-component manufacturing at the 77,500-square-foot facility and move those operations to Cheraw, South Carolina — about 88 miles southeast of its base in northern York County.
The Fort Mill facility employs about 191 workers, all of whom were given offers to relocate to Cheraw, Schaeffler spokeswoman Lynn Kier said. The job cuts are expected to begin July 1 and take about a year to finish.
