Authorities ID body discovered floating near Lancaster County bridge

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Detectives are conducting an investigation after a man’s body was found Monday evening near a popular bridge in Lancaster County.

According to investigators, just before 6 p. m., someone called authorities saying there was a body in the water near the bridge over Beaver Creek on Dick Hill Road. Deputies said the area is very remote, but the bridge is a gathering spot for people.

Two deputies responded to the scene and found the body in about seven feet of murky water.

Detectives announced Friday they identified the body as Casier Izzard, 46, of Heath Springs, South Carolina.

“Although the area near the bridge is remote and sparsely populated, there is a lot of traffic on the road by hunters on tracts all along the road and by people apparently partying on the bridge,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We hope someone saw something and will call us. We also encourage anyone missing a male family member or acquaintance to let us know.”

It is unknown at this time when, where, or how Izzard died, but the death is being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy has been scheduled.
