Second suspect arrested in deadly Albemarle shooting, police say

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A second suspect has been charged in connection with the murder of a man in Albemarle in February, police said.

Devaunte Collins, 27, was arrested Friday and charged with felony murder and felony conspiracy to commit murder.

In March, 25-year-old Donte Jamal Langhorne-Hagins was captured in Virginia. He’s accused of shooting and killing 33-year-old Tristan Edward Crump, officials said.

According to police, Langhorne-Hagins was arrested March 24 in Newport News, Virginia, by officers with the Albemarle Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation. He was then sent back to North Carolina.

Langhorne-Hagins was charged with first-degree murder and felony conspiracy.

Officers said Crump was found shot on Feb. 8 in the front yard of a home on Henry Jay Street in Albemarle. Crump was taken to Atrium Health Stanly, where he later died.

Langhorne-Hagins was extradited back to North Carolina after a hearing in Virginia.

Langhorne-Hagins first court appearance is scheduled for June 8.

Collins is being held in the Stany County Jail without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 18.

Officers are still asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Albemarle Police Department at 704-984-9500, or you may leave an anonymous tip at 704-984-9511.
