STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — A man shoplifted from Walmart Sunday in Stanly County and led police on a chase.

Officers responded to a call at 5:38 p.m. after 46-year-old Tyrone Gleaton took merchandise from the store and loaded up a car.

Police said an officer tried to stop the car, but Gleaton man attempted to flee.

The officer that responded tried to initiate a traffic stop, and Gleaton attempted to hit the officer with his vehicle and then sped away, crossing over the median going west in the eastbound lane on Highway 2427.

When he crossed the median, the car crashed into another car and continued on to hit two other cars, injuring a woman, police said.

Police said Gleaton was taken to the hospital, and that he had two outstanding warrants.

Gleaton is facing charges of assault with attempt to run over an officer. Officers are reviewing the video and investigating to determine if more charges will be given.
