CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man accused of fatally shooting another man outside a hotel amid protests against police violence Wednesday night in uptown, Chief Kerr Putney said Friday at a news conference.
Rayquan Borum, 21, was apprehended around 7 a.m. Friday by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), Putney said.

The crowd was so dense that SWAT team members had to evacuate him to an ambulance. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.
Protests broke out in Charlotte in the wake of the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, 43.
Scott was shot Tuesday by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Officer Brentley Vinson, who was not in uniform or wearing a body camera.

Three other uniformed officers who were on the scene had body cameras on, according to police.
Both Vinson and Scott are black.
Protesters on Thursday night called on police to release dashcam video of the confrontation.
On Friday, the chief said that "it's a matter of when" in regards to releasing the video of Scott's shooting to the public.
“I'm not a very patient person,” Putney said. “If I were putting it out on my time frame, we would damage the investigation. What I can tell you is the video evidence didn't get us to the standard of probable cause.”
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
