Man says he was shot while trying to tow illegally parked car in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A tow truck driver says he’s lucky to be alive following a dangerous run-in with an armed man last week.

Bobby didn’t want us to use his full name, but he told Channel 9 he has been driving tow trucks for three years now.

It’s not the first time he has ever had a gun pulled on him, but it’s the first time one was used.

“I heard the first pop and then by the second time, I felt something hit me in the back,” Bobby said.

The incident happened this past Wednesday at 4:30 a.m.

“There was a vehicle parked over multiple spots and so he was in violation,” said Bobby.

But as Bobby was getting ready to tow the car, he says 67-year-old Victor Crosby came out and confronted him.

“Had everything hooked up, gentleman came out with his pit bull and was holding his gun, pointed it at me,” said Bobby

He said he wasn’t going to discuss the matter as long as he was being threatened and so he was driving away, and that’s when he heard shots.

“I didn’t know how much blood was there and I didn’t reach back and touch anything but it was a lot of pain,” Bobby said. “Yeah, it started to burn about halfway to the hospital, so I knew it was definitely a gunshot.”

Police arrested Crosby and charged him with discharging a weapon into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty to a drug charge in 1992.

“It’s sore and still hurts,” said Bobby. Despite his pain, he said he’s going back to work Sunday night.

He’s OK, but his doctors say he is very lucky. The bullet came very close to his spine.
