Man jumps from 8th floor window at Lancaster hospital

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — (AP) Authorities say a 22-year-old man undergoing a mental evaluation leaped out of an eighth-floor window at a Lancaster hospital.

Police said that the man used a chair to break the glass around 5 p.m. Sunday and threw himself out the window at Springs Memorial Hospital as staff tried to keep him inside.

Authorities say the man fell four stories to another roof, but survived with several broken bones. His condition Monday was not known.

The name of the man was not released.

Deputies say the man was picked up Oct. 15 and taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
