Man in motorized shopping cart accused of inappropriately touching teens at Walmart

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — A man in a motorized shopping cart is accused of inappropriately touching two teenage girls at a Union County Walmart and authorities are searching for him.

The alleged incident happened on Sept. 21 at the store in Indian Trail.

"You know what, chills are going down my spine right now,” a shopper said.

“I would want to hurt somebody. I mean seriously, if somebody touched my daughter, I'm not joking,” another shopper said.

Witnesses saw the man’s interaction with the teens, but the man left the store before deputies could identify him.

At one point, deputies said he tried grabbing a necklace one of the teens was wearing.

"To know somebody would do that, in general, is just gross. It's just uncomfortable,” shopper Bridget McGuire said.

The man drove away in a red Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Shoppers told Channel 9 they will have their guard up next time they shop.

"I'm probably going to carry pepper spray,” McGuire said.

"If we see him, definitely, I’m going to report him and make a citizen's arrest,” a shopper said.

Call police if you have any information.

Walmart sent Channel 9 the following statement:

“The safety of our customers is a top priority. We want all of our customers to have a pleasant shopping experience at our stores and we are working with law enforcement. We would refer any additional questions to them as the case is still under investigation.”
