CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was hit and killed by an SUV in west Charlotte early Friday, according to police.
Officers said the collision happened just after 6 a.m. on Parkway Avenue, just off Tuckaseegee Road.
Paramedics pronounced the man, identified by police as 59-year-old Tyrone Almonds, dead at the scene.

Police told Channel 9 the victim was struck by a black SUV. The driver remained at the scene.
Parkway Avenue was shut down while police investigated.
Police said Almonds was walking east on Brice Street when he tried to cross Parkway Avenue and darted in front of the SUV.
Police said speed and alcohol use are not suspected as contributing factors for the driver. They said it's unclear if Almonds was impaired.
