CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte man and his roommate finally have heat in their apartment for the first time in four years.
Brenden Nachman lives at the Scarlet Pointe Apartments in northwest Charlotte. It’s a complex that Channel 9 has told you about for months after reporter Almiya White uncovered multiple issues, from mold and bugs, to missing fire extinguishers.
Until last week, Nachman had not had heat since he moved in back in 2019. He and his roommate would often use space heaters to keep warm.
“When we do move out, whoever’s fortunate or unfortunate enough to be here, they’re going to have a heater,” Nachman said.

Nachman told White he put in multiple maintenance requests, showing screenshots that the request was canceled. Another one was marked as complete, but Nachman still didn’t have heat. One request added that the HVAC system was “not in shape.”
“Either one of us would be upstairs with a heater, one would be downstairs, or we would both hang out in the same room to consolidate the heat. It was very difficult,” Nachman said.
Nachman finally received an alert stating he would receive a new HVAC.
“It wasn’t until this year that I really got fed up with how cold it was getting,” Nachman said. “This this has been the first apartment complex where I’ve had any kind of dire issues like this.
Nachman still questions why it took so long to get his issue resolved.
“I want to know where the urgency came from and why it happened then, why it wasn’t there in October, November, when we were first bringing these issues up,” Nachman said.
Nachman said he plans to leave when his lease is up.
