Suspect and victim in Rock Hill homicide are also suspects from Carolina Place Mall shooting

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death early Tuesday in Rock Hill.

Officers were called just after 2:30 a.m. after someone saw a man on the ground along Coronet Court, near S. Heckle Boulevard. Police said the 911 caller told dispatchers they had heard gunshots in the area about 25 minutes earlier.

When officers got to the scene, they found the victim, 32-year-old Kevion Harris, who had been shot. MEDIC pronounced him dead at the scene.

Jamie Gavantay Williams, 25, of Rock Hill, was identified as a suspect. Detectives issued warrants for Williams and were able to find him at a home on Duckett Court.

Channel 9 discovered that Harris’ and Williams’ names and dates of birth match those of the suspects involved in a shooting at Carolina Place Mall last spring in Pineville. Rock Hill police confirmed they are the same individuals and said charges have now been brought in both incidents by their respective agencies.

In the May 1 shooting, Harris and Williams shot at each other inside the mall and both went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Pineville police told Channel 9 they were aware of the Rock Hill shooting and will work with and assist Rock Hill with anything they need.

“This is a very sad and tragic event and our thoughts and prayers go out to all families,” said Captain Corey Copley.

Rock Hill police said Williams surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. At the jail, he was served with warrants for murder, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful carrying of a firearm.

A hold was also placed on Williams because he is currently wanted in Mecklenburg County for other charges.

No other details about the crime have been released.

Anyone with information about the homicide should call Rock Hill Police at 803-329-7293.
