KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police are looking for the person who robbed a Kannapolis Food Lion late Tuesday night.
The crime happened around 11 p.m. at the grocery store on Winecoff School Road.
Police said that surveillance video shows a man walking into the store wearing construction clothes and a hat.
Detectives told Channel 9 that the man then walked up to an employee who was opening the safe, pulled-out a gun and took the money -- roughly $12,000.
"I come over here late at night by myself sometimes," shopper Beverly Edwards said. "I wasn't going to think something was going to happen right here."
"It surprised me," shopper Phyllis Lynch said. "And I don't live too far from [this store], so it's very convenient for me."
Nobody was hurt and police said the suspect left in a blue car.
Channel 9 is hoping to get a hold of the surveillance video from police later Wednesday afternoon.
