CHARLOTTE — A man was killed in a motorcycle crash in northeast Charlotte Sunday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Officers responded just before 6 p.m. to The Plaza near Wilann Drive. At the scene, they found motorcyclist Charles Edward Whitfield, 51, seriously hurt.
Whitfield was taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after, police said.
While investigating, CMPD determined Whitfield was traveling east when he went into a curve and lost control. The motorcycle then went off the road to the right and hit a curb, ejecting Whitfield.
Authorities said Whitfield was wearing a helmet and that excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are also pending.
No other details have been released.
