ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — A man has died following a crash in Ashe County Saturday morning, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Baldwin Road at Black Bear Inn Road.

According to troopers, a 2004 Honda Element was traveling southwest on Baldwin Road when it drove off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole.

When troopers arrived at the scene, witnesses told them the vehicle’s driver had been seen running into the woods.

That driver, later identified as 34-year-old Abraham Grant Jordan, was later found unconscious in that wooded area.

Jordan would later die from injuries sustained in the crash at an area hospital, according to troopers.

Troopers said an initial investigation indicates speeding as a contributing circumstance in the crash.

However, the investigation is active and ongoing.
